Today was a BUSY day! I will try not to miss anything. This morning, Bessie ran a music group in the preschool while Marianne and Tina observed for behaviors. Tina and Marianne had a conversation with the upper elementary teacher about some of her concerns and helped validate that she was doing a good job. Michaell and Andrea did sensory training with the four resident psychologists in the sensory room. Amy and Noelia talked with Lupita, a lovely lady who is in charge of starting a special education classroom on campus in the near future. We answered questions regarding classroom materials, set up, behavior strategies, and modifying curriculum. Suzie was able to work alongside the PT student who is interning here at Village of Hope and help teach her some strategies with the kiddos who had PT today. Chase spent the day painting cabinet doors with Rudy!

Lunch was in town at the local shopping area and then we returned full and ready for a siesta. Marianne and Tina collected and organized resources to share with the teachers in the classrooms related to behavior management and building classroom community. Bessie and Amy helped create task analysis visuals for a young lady who struggles with executive functioning and completing tasks like teeth brushing, washing clothes, and taking a shower. Bessie then attempted to work with a little guy who appears to have some communicate delays, but he was pretty hesitant to participate. Suzie and Andrea completed some trainings with the teen moms including some PT approaches and ways to play with their babies (uncommon in Guatemala). They then led yoga with the teen girls along with Noelia. Michaell has been translating documents all afternoon. After dinner, Marianne, Suzie and Andrea went and made some improvements in the PT room and the sensory room.

The team will spend the evening getting resources ready to present to the VOH staff tomorrow before we head back to the states. Be sure to check in tomorrow for our grand finale, and start praying now that we get home in a decent amount of time! We’re feeling a bit leery.
